JBRL Nitro Series Rd4 – Report

The 4th round of this year’s Jimmy Babcock Racing League Nitro Series was held at Heritage R/C Park in Chula Vista. While Ryan Cavalieri (Team Associated) came out successful in the supporting 1/8th E-Buggy class, Drew Moller (Mugen), Adam Drake (TLR) and Cody Smith (TLR) formed the Expert Nitro Buggy podium. In Expert Nitro Truggy TLR’s Ryan Maifield took the win from Mugen driver Drew Moller, while Cody King (Kyosho) completed the top 3 result. Cordoba & Ogden win at Big Bend Off-Road Shootout

The 2nd Annual Big Bend Off-Road Shootout was held at the Capital City Raceway in Tallahassee. Reds Racing team drivers Eduardo Cordoba and Cole Ogden dominated both the Nitro Buggy and the Nitro Truggy classes. Tekno CNC delrin shock cartridge set

Tekno introduce a CNC-machined shock cartridge set for the dampers of their 1/8th and 1/10th vehicles such as the EB48 and NB48 buggy and the SCT410 short course truck. They are a direct replacement for the stock guides on all Tekno RC vehicles and will reduce drag on the shock shaft and improve suspension efficiency in all conditions, resulting in improved handling.  They are also more durable than the stock parts and one package will cover a full set of four shocks. Ryan Lutz takes E-Buggy class at Futaba Challenge

During last weekend’s O.S./Futaba Challenge in St. Louis, MO Ryan Lutz dominated qualifying in the 1/8 E-Buggy class by taking the overall TQ place. Ryan was then able to win the first two legs of the prestigious A-main finals, claiming the top spot well before proceedings had concluded for the rest of the field. Josh Wheeler doubles at Futaba Challenge St. Louis

This past weekend was the O.S./Futaba Challenge in St. Louis, MO. The track was built by The Dirt Racing with lots of jumps and some nice flowing sections that made for good racing. The racing format was best 2 out of 3 qualifiers with two 20 minute main events for both pro buggy and truggy. There would also be a dash for cash with the top 6 qualifiers starting in inverted order. Adam Drake dominates 5th Annual East Coast Champs

The 5th Annual East Coast Champs took place at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, MA with around 100 entries. TLR’s Adam and Ronda Drake were on hand for the event not only to race, but to offer help to all the racers. Adam was the top qualifier in 1/8th nitro buggy and 1/8th nitro truck. Drake then went on to win the 1/8th nitro buggy final followed by Renato Tradardi, Gunnar Rieck, Richard Saxton, and Ronda Drake and he also came out successful in the 1/8th nitro truck class followed by Ronda Drake in 2nd and Anthony Mazzara in 3rd. To celebrate the win of last weekend’s JMRCA 1/10th Buggy nationals Yokomo release a special combo set of their successful B-Max4III 4WD buggy. Based on the standard kit the set also includes the recently released lightweight chassis kit that allows to use both saddle and shorty LiPo batteries. The 5th round of the combined Belgian and Netherlands 1/10th off-road championship was held at the astro turf track of Arendonck in Belgium. The sunny weekend made for a record outcome of 53 2WD and 40 4WD entries. Nicolas Risser (Team C) took 3 qualification rounds in front of Wesley Van Helmond (TLR) with Bryan Van Rijnberk (Xray) coming in 3rd. The triple looked like they would battle for the win as they already opened quite a gap to the following drivers. The 3rd round of the BRCA National series took place at the Kent track just outside Maidstone over the weekend. The weather was very hot and humid on Saturday which made it pretty hard work for all the drivers as they got used to the excellent but very technical track layout that had been set down. Marius Stols wins 13.5T class at Africa Cup

The African cup event was held in Pretoria, South Africa this past weekend. This event was a mixture of gas and electric racing with Harold van Eeden being the top qualifier in the 13.5T class. After some close racing each of the drivers on the podium won one of the 3 finals. The final round of the BTCC took place this last weekend at the awesomely fast Mendip Raceway in Western Super Mare. The 4th and final round of this year’s Italian 1/8th off-road nationals took place at the “Ongaroring” in Sacile in Northern Italy. The free practice sessions of the F1 category had young Davide Ongaro (Mugen) clocking the fastest times followed by Alex Zanchettin (TLR) and Riccardo Berton. Marco Baruffolo (RB) and Riccardo Rabitti (Radiosistemi) completed the top 5. After qualifying Davide Ongaro was still on top of the time sheets, again followed by Alex Zanchettin, his closest competitor. Dario Balestri crowned 1/8th European A champion

The 2014 1/8th Nitro On-road European Championships A were held at the Stöhr Ring in Kirchberg, Austria. The event was affected by the weather from time to time and to overcome any rain related issues the 45 minute final was started over an hour earlier than planned, with 2011 World Champion and double European Champion Robert Pietsch (Mugen) starting from pole position into the final.
